Hornets Play Host At Tyoga, Start Season With 3rd Place Finish

The Wellsboro Golf team hosted the Northern Tier League at Tyoga Golf Course Monday afternoon to start the 2027 athletic season.

The Hornets finished 3rd in the match, shooting a combined score of 344.

Towanda won the day with a 305 while Athens finished 2nd with a 327. North Penn-Mansfield (350) was 4th, Cowanesque Valley (369) placed 5th, Wyalusing (387) was 6th, Canton (402) was 7th and Sayre (434) rounded out the field in 8th.

Senior Syler Pietrzyk led Wellsboro with a round of 81, with 2 birdies and 7 pars. Junior Chase Schultz shot an 83, sophomore Benjamin Jackson finished with an 89, junior Logan Johnson had a 91, freshman Jackson Largey carded a 94, and sophomore Conlen Whitsell rounded out the team with a 96.

Towanda's Boom Thompson led all golfers with a round of 68.

Wellsboro (5-2, 5-2 NTL) travels to Towanda Golf Club for their 2nd full league match Wednesday.
