A career-best finish from junior Ty Morral helped lead the Wellsboro Golf team to their third straight victory, and second NTL victory, at Towanda Country Club on Thursday, August 30.
As a team the Hornets edged Northern Tioga 337-340. Tunkhannock was 3rd with a 353, North Penn-Mansfield (398) was 4th, Athens (404) was 5th, Sayre (406) was 6th, Towanda (420) was 7th, and Warrior Run (444) rounded out the field in 8th.
Morral finished 2nd overall (79), 3 strokes back of 1st place finisher Austin Outman (76) of Northern Tioga.
"Ty played really well. He chipped in for eagle on 12 and was the most consistent all day for us," head coach Steve Macensky said.
Senior Ben Barnett (81) was 3rd overall followed by senior Brandyn Tuttle (86) with a tie for 5th, junior Joseph Propheta (91) with a tie for 13th, sophomore Brock Hamblin (102), and junior Ethan Blakley (104).
"It was another close, grueling match," continued Macensky. "Feels good to be on the winning side so far this year. We still have room for improvement. I'm just waiting for the whole team to play well at the same time."
After Thursday's match the Hornets are in 1st place overall in the Northern Tier League standings with a 10-0 league record and are 12-0 overall so far. Northern Tioga is 2nd at 8-2 and Athens is in 3rd with a 5-5 record.
Next up for the Hornets is a date at Corey Creek in Mansfield on Tuesday, September 4.
