The Wellsboro Golf team edged North Penn-Mansfield on their rivals' home course for their first win of the season on Tuesday, September 6.
The Hornets shot 364 and North Penn-Mansfield had a 366 team score for second place. Northern Tioga (369) was 3rd, Towanda (387) was 4th, Sayre (395) was 5th, Northeast Bradford (406) was 6th, and Athens (430) rounded out the field in 7th.
"I'm really happy for the team they have worked hard all year," said head coach Steve Macensky. "Our top three players have performed well every match. After three matches our fourth score has come from three different players. It has been a real team effort all year."
Sophomore Brandyn Tuttle led the Hornets on the afternoon with an 84, good enough for 3rd place overall behind Sayre's Ryan Murelle (78) and NP-M's J.P. Shaw (80). Sophomore Ben Barnett finished right behind Tuttle with an 85, sophomore Taynton Repard shot 90, freshman Joseph Propheta carded a 105, sophomore Chris Richardson finished with 115, and junior Zach Lundgren came home with 123.
The Hornets' first place finish improves them to 16-2 on the year, and moves them into a tie for first in the NTL with Northern Tioga. The team will be back in action on tomorrow at Towanda Country Club.
